“Then He said to me, ‘Prophesy to these bones and say to them, “Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!”’” —Ezekiel 37:4
Standing in a valley filled with scattered bones, Ezekiel was surrounded by evidence of complete and irreversible loss. Humanly speaking, there was no reason for hope. Yet God asked the prophet a startling question: “Can these bones live?”
At God’s command, the bones came together, bodies were restored, and breath entered what had long been dead. The valley of death became an army filled with life.
The vision reminds us that no life, family, church, or nation is beyond the restoring power of God’s Spirit. Where we see endings, God can still speak beginnings.
